National Film and Television School

The National Film and Television School (NFTS) is recognised internationally as one of the world’s pre-eminent institutions in film and the moving image, enabling the UK to compete at Hollywood level in the international creative economy.

The NFTS was established in 1971 and currently teaches around 400 students, with another thousand on short courses and other industry-facing schemes. The School offers state-of-the-art facilities with industry standard equipment, teaching a wide-range of career focussed, practical disciplines: from editing, directing, producing and screenwriting to camera and animation work. Developing, nurturing and showcasing home-grown talent, the School is an essential resource and skills pipeline for the UK’s creative industries.

The School has fostered new techniques and disciplines which enable its graduates to make a major contribution to the UK economy and encourage inward investment through their reputation for distinguished work in the film, TV and video games industries. The achievements of the School’s alumni – winning a total of 11 Oscars and 138 BAFTAs – support its reputation as a premier film school with a strong record for the encouragement of diverse talent.
