University of Strathclyde
Driving innovation and job creation in advanced manufacturing
The University of Strathclyde delivers one of the most distinctive advanced manufacturing programmes in the UK. Working with business, industry and government to deliver long-term economic and societal benefits, it is transforming competitiveness, enhancing productivity and producing a new generation of talent.
Established as the UK’s first technological university, Strathclyde has a long track record in creating accelerator programmes with industry partners. Its latest advanced manufacturing work is its largest and most ambitious to date and has national and global scope . It has a significant impact on a range of sectors including aerospace, automotive, maritime, energy and pharmaceuticals, and encompasses transport, environment and healthcare dimensions.
The last 15 years have underlined the significant gap the university fills in providing technological solutions to global challenges, while nurturing talent, fostering innovation, and generating inclusive economic growth. This has included strong impact in terms of ‘place’, through the creation of two vibrant Innovation Districts, in Glasgow, with advanced manufacturing at their core: Glasgow City Innovation District and the Advanced Manufacturing Innovation District are connecting local and international industry, and in turn driving innovation, economic activity, job creation and an inclusive approach to local engagement.
