The London School of Economics and Political Science
Providing a multi-disciplinary response to climate change
Climate change threatens the lives and livelihoods of billions of people worldwide. The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) established the Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment to respond to this critical global challenge by undertaking world-leading multi-disciplinary work on climate change economics, finance and policy. It is now at the forefront of expanding knowledge and plays a critical role in informing decision-makers.
The institute has built an international reputation for academic excellence and impact through its training, research, analysis and engagement. Its researchers have been recognised through international awards, particularly in environmental economics, and have made seminal contributions to the study of areas including the potential economic impacts of climate change. Innovative tools and methods have been developed, including the Transition Pathway Initiative and the Climate Change Laws of the World database, used by researchers and decision-makers.
Its experts have influenced domestic and international policymaking and there has been a demonstrable impact on policies and practices of finance ministries, central banks and international finance institutions, as well as on the design of legislation, climate policies, and economic responses to COVID-19. The institute will continue to play an active national and international role in pursuit of prosperity and well-being for all.
